COMING JUNE 3, 2008After a 12-week cross-country tour that saw 1 in every 3000 Canadians audition, an additional 12 days of online “last chance” video submissions, the cheesy (and not in a good way) third version of the “Media Idol” promo gimmick, and weeks of CTV hype (my favorite: “Season 6 of Canadian Idol Blows the Lid Off Summer.” Take that, Hollywood block-busters, the looming Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facility and the end of the oil age, a.k.a. civilization as we know it), Canadian Idol 6 premiers this Tuesday at 9 EST.
While some Idol franchise members are talking about cutting back on the audition episodes (I mean, come on – would you put a popcorn ceiling in the Sistine Chapel?), Canadian Idol is staying strong. In addition to the June 3rd premier, audition episodes will run June 9th and 10th. Top 200 episodes air the 16th and 17th, leading to the reveal of the Top 22. We don’t see our first live performances until June 23rd, when the show goes to 3 nights a week. Two weeks later the Top 22 will be down to the Top 10, creating the global distraction the Israeli air force has been waiting on since the end of the sand-storm season.
